Some 928 owners may experience a loud click when the door opens. Typically
two clicks to be more precise.
This is the door catch, that has twofriction points that prevent the door
from suddenly opening to the limit. It is normal to feel the friction, but the
loud clack is not so normal. There can be various reasons for this issue.
- The counter-sunken torx M6 bolts that hold the bracket to the A-pilar
are loose. They are hard to get at, especially the upper one.
- The imbus bolts that hold the door catch to the door are loose. The are
easy to access with the door fully opened.
- A flathead hex-key bolt that goes through the catch "band" has play.
Especially this one shows wear over time. The band turns around the bolt and
gradually wears off the area that is designed to hold the catch-band firmly
locked. The bolt has sort of a spline that should help. This is exactly
where it wears. You might wonder why there is no better solution for the arm
to pivot around the bolt.
