1990 928S4 rear thermostat seal / front water bridge seal replacement

1.    Drain coolant from radiator.

2.     Second, loosen top radiator hose from thermostat housing and push it to the side out of the way.

3.    Loosen the 2 bolts holding the thermostat housing to the water bridge and remove the thermostat. You can now see the front water bridge seal that the thermostat opens and seals to.

4.     Get a medium sized soft rag and push it carefully into the access hole to the lower right inside the water bridge. This hole goes to the water pump so you do not want to drop anything down there; hence the rag!

5.     Get a large flat head screw driver and catching the outside lip of the old front seal push hard on it until it starts to flex, bend and the pop out.

6.     Give the opening the seal was attached to a careful clean with a small wire brush or emery cloth and rag. Wipe some anti-freeze around the opening for lubrication.

7.     Get your new seal and hand push it into place; make sure it is in square on.

8.     Get a long, same sized radius as the seal, socket and with a hammer, gently tap the seal in until it sits squarely on the back lip of the opening.

9.     Make sure the seal is in/seated correct and wipe clean REMOVE RAG FROM WATER PUMP HOLE!

10.   Reassemble/fill coolant, run car to temperature at idle to make sure it went well.

Best, Dave.
