The Japanese version of the 928 has 2 temp sensors (thermistors?) in the CAT. They feed an electrical signal to relay like amplifiers called "Switching Unit" which trigger the alarm via the CAT light in the instrument cluster. Here is a picture of the CAT and the relays:
