The intake of a 929 starting MY 1987 has a thermo switch on top. This sensor signals to the climate/fan controller box next to the passenger seat that the intake is very hot. This signal makes the fan controller run the fans at moderate speed to cool down the engine. It does this when the hood is closed and ignition is off. It is commonly called "after - cooling" of the engine and happens when you leave the car. Suddenly you notice the fans kick in to cool things down a bit.
