The steering rack has a saddle that is supposed to keep the play of the meshing teeth to a minimum. A sprint holds a small cylinder to the moving steering axle and a Teflon guide piece in shape of a horse saddle slides over the steering axle. The correct shim is needed to apply the correct pressure and keep the steering as smooth as possible.
