Speakers for a '93

 Hi all-

The woofers in my GTS have finally started to give out (the foam surrounds are tearing).
I'd like to replace them with something that sounds better but will still look stock with the factory grills.

The Crutchfield.com site shows a large selection of speakers that will fit this application, but I know there are unique concerns regarding the mounting depth and the impedance.

Anyone who has BTDT? Any advice?

Granted, replacement speakers can sound much better than stock, but this involves more than just dropping in a new speaker in place of the woofer.
You need to replace the amp, crossovers, wiring and other speakers to get it to sound right. The 6.5 inch woofer is a very odd speaker and nothing I have tried as a drop in replacement worked well at all. It puts out far more low end than any other 6.5 inch that the amp can drive. Most people end up resorting to subs in the tire well. So, you should consider getting the speaker surround fixed if the woofers are otherwise not defective.
There are service and even DIY kits, which I have used with success, to repair the surround. Even if the woofers rattle (warped cone, misaligned voice coil), that can be repaired. Do a Google on speaker repair or speaker repair foam. Here's a couple of hits.
