Well I dived into the seat this weekend with no luck.

I measured the voltage at the switch like the manual asked. It was OK.

Took the seat out (well sort of, I had to leave it connected to check stuff) and checked the voltage with the switch on at the seat connector and got 12 volts.

Checked the resistance of the seat got 1.4 ohms.

Never did find the thumb wheel potentiometer.....How do you adjust this thing?  The manual says to set to maximum????

The seat got warm on me a couple of time while I was at the frenzy but hasn't worked since.

What am I missing?

Help please!.

If you have 12 vdc feeding into 1.4 ohms resistance, you darn sure should get heat. If you are not, then the possibilities that I see are:
1) The heating circuit is breaking when you sit on it.
2) You have 12 vdc unloaded, but not enough current to heat the seat.

Some checks:
Plug the connector showing 12 vdc into the connector showing 1.4 ohms, wait a couple of minutes, and see if the seat heats. If not, try sticking a couple of small wires into the connector so you can read voltage with it connected. Check for voltage, plug it in and see what happens to the voltage. If it drops to zero, suspect the switch.

Get a headlamp bulb, blower fan, or other 12 vdc load. Hook the load to the connector showing 12 vdc and see what happens. If the voltage won't power the load, try hooking it up just before the switch. If the circuit will power the load before the switch, but not after the switch, the switch is dirty/bad.

If the connector will power the load, the problem is in the seat, possibly a connection that will carry 12 vdc at no load, but not under a heavy load.

Basic principle: Find where the voltage disappears.

Are you sure that you have the adjustable heating? There were several different seat heating options.
