OK.. the intake is off...the flappy works with the mighty vac attached directly to it!!!!!  and hold VAC endlessly!!!
NOW, a few questions!

1) in the bottom of the "V" where it is flat...there are 2 leads that appear to come right out of the block on e goes forward and and one aft  If
memory serves they attach to the harness on the injector rail.  WHAT ARE THESE.. mine are intact.. but the rubber casing on them is badly split.. and the wire is exposed...any ill effects?

2) the VACUUM LINES... gaaawwwwwd, the vacuum lines haha....the big splitter near the back of the engine has 5 connections  ..its cracked.. hard...and SHOT...i think 2 of my lines lead somewhere and were actually connected.  One goes to the tranny (it holds vac fine when tested independently) but with leaks else where, what good is it!!! One goes up on the left side of the engine (facing fwd) and connects to a actuator that the fuel lines where connected to.  Anyway the quick and dirty...NAME WHERE ALL 5 VAC LINES GO OFF THIS SPLITTER!!!

3) Now on the throttle body (i will call it that)  there are 2 black lines that come off brass L shaped fittings on  the top.. very close to the butterfly valve in the throat of the intake... once again...one goes fwd and one aft.. one of these wasn't connected.

4)  after peering down into each of the intakes , above the valves, what is a good sign to see?  had an accumulation of a dark brown gummy substance...as you got closer to the valve port it was very nice and clean.  WHAT IS THE GUMMY STUFF.. it was also on the chambers of the intake manifold...can it be cleaned/ removed?

5)My injectors are still in the manifold i didn't want to force any of them out until i read up on the procedure.. BUT one of them has a split in it,
right next to the SPRAY HOLE that sprays towards the valves.  The others appear fine.. a little of the GUMMY stuff around them but not  actually ON the injector head near the spray hole itself. Who as any good things to say about places that rebuild, test and refurbish injectors....Like they say...while i have it all apart...I may as well go all the way!

OK ENOUGH SAID....I'm sure a few more ?????'s later...but for now thanks for any input.  I cant wait to get it all back together and turn the key!

Hi Tony,

I've taken the intake manifold off of my 87 more than a few times.  The two items you are describing in the bottom of the "V" are the knock (detonation) sensors.  I would suggest replacing them since the wires are exposed and while you have it all apart.  It will only be a matter of time before the plastic in the sensor head deteriorates and falls apart, as mine did.

Your car should have a Vacuum Hose Routing Diagram stuck underneath the hood towards the front.  It will tell you were most of the vacuum lines connect to.  But if not, the 5 prong tee connector goes as follows:  1 end is the vacuum source which connects to one of the brass L shaped fittings on the intake throat, 2 ends connect to the 2 fuel pressure dampers, 1 goes to the fuel pressure regulator, and the other end goes to the tranny.

The L fitting that points aft connects to the 5 tee fitting, and I think the one pointing front connects to the control valve for the Air Injector (it's the thing that the air pump gives air to).

I am not sure what causes the dark gummy stuff in the intake ports, my car had plenty of it also, but it can be dissolved with lots of lacquer thinner and a clean cloth or paper towel.

>5)My injectors are still in the manifold I didn't want to force any of them out until i read up on the procedure.. BUT one of them has a split in it,

The fuel injectors will come out of the manifold quite easily.  They pull straight up and out.  I used a pair of needle nosed pliers with a 45 degree angle to gently pry them out.  For a reassembly tip,  I would suggest removing the injectors before you try and put the intake manifold back on the engine.  The whole thing gets kind of bulky and heavy when trying to precisely fit the intake back on the posts and stuff the vacuum hoses to fit back in the "V".   I have learned after doing it several times, that it can be very easy to damage one or more of the injector spray heads on the posts by trying to jiggle around the intake assembly to make it fit.  Re-install the injectors after you fit the intake back on the engine.
Also, be very, very careful that nothing drops/falls into the intake ports! (speaking from a dumb mistake I made)

Let me know when you need more help.
